EFA IN CAF COMPETITIONS’ DILEMMA

By Sibusiso Masilela | 2021-05-09

SOCCER - The Eswatini Football Association (EFA) could find itself in a CAF interclub club competitions dilemma, which would see the country without any representatives next season.

This is because the football mother body will have to submit names of the local representatives for next season’s CAF interclub competitions, namely the Champions League and Confederation Cup by June 30.

Eswatini could also find itself without a Confederation Cup envoy  for the second time running due to the uncertainty of the continuation of the EswatiniBank Cup.

The country does not have any representative in this season’s Confederation Cup after the annual knockout competition was called off in March last year.

The MTN Premier League 2020/21 season has so far played 13 games and it is expected to conclude in July depanding on the COVID - 19 threats in the country. Reigning MTN premier league Champions Young Buffaloes represented the country in the champions League before they were relegated to the Confederation Cup.

CAF has already communicated the updates to all of its 54 member associations and despite the uncertainty over the conclusion of the current football in the country,  EFA will be expected to submit names before the deadline.

EFA Marketing and Communications Officer Muzi Radebe said they were yet to receive any correspondence from CAF when reached for comment.

“We haven’t received anything from CAF and I can only be able to make a follow up on Monday (tomorrow), when I return to office since it’s a weekend,” he said.
