SIMO SINGS

By Mdubasa | 2020-11-01

Can you briefly tell us about yourself? My formal name is Simo Mamba, a 26-year-old male Swati from Moti, Shiselweni - currently reside in Manzini, Coates Valley. A photographer by profession and leader in a youth ministry called Young-life. Music and entertainment had always been a part of my life. A former dancer and Judge in many talent competitions in the country including the famous Sjaiva Snomekanjani TV show where I was Chief Judge.

What skills have you learned that will help you in your singing career?

The top on the list would be my photography and videography skills. Multimedia and other technical skills as a whole seem to have a great market potential and in the future.

What made you decide to pursue a career in entertainment?

I didn’t want to regret when I become an old man haven’t served my purpose and hidden desires in me. I also wanted to leave mark, something people will use when I pass to remember that I lived.

What kind of singer would you classify yourself as?

I am a Something Soweto fan, much respect for this gent and his vocals are just waves.

What has been the best performance of your career so far?

Had not thought about this before but now that it has been mentioned I think the best performance was a client’s party. Where I was hired for photography and was asked to say something. It was the most real experienced I had never had before, it felt special when people were singing along.

What is your creative process when working on a new song?

“The beat before the vocal” OR “the vocal before the beat’’ simply means that sing to what you like to produce what people will like. The producer and the vocalist; one if not the two of you should be creative. It a must for an artist to be creative. My approach to a song is to hum to the beat and create musical rhythms, come up with a story line then write lyrics and sing.

What are the essential qualities that make a good musician?

A good musician in one who listen to the ideas that sounds silly or crazy on their mind, then writes and sing those. You are not creative enough if you do not persecute your ideas. They don’t break down or quit when their craft is being disconfirmed but they become better.

What was the best concert you’ve seen and why?

The bushfire festival. They feature most art, not just music. I have also seen the greatest artists on stage. Though international, I like that they also feature a lot of Swati musicians and hire a lot of Emaswati during the entire event.

How would you go about energising a tired audience?

Dancing can be a fun way to energise a room and get people moving.  At the start of the presentation, put on some music and just start dancing.  The courageous will join you; the others will at least be entertained by your mirthful movements.

What advice would you give to artists during these tough times?

The key work would be stay creative. The internet in our days has it all, you type anything you want to know and boom, it gives you.

What projects have you worked on?

There is a number of projects that I have worked on, singles and Eps - featuring Eswatini DJs and the very best of producers I know namely; Xedu, Hibrid Hass, Ribsoul, Nakiso, Nelson X, Kalibra, Mimi, Bruknow, DJ Chicago and many more. One projects that I am looking forward to is my personal one, entitled’’ In Africa’’, the Legendary Music is going to drop this weekend. An Afro Jazz type with afro pop elements in it, oh man this one is a song for every age group.
