ZULU D HEADLINES AFRICA UNITES SHOW IN TAIWAN

By Phetsile Mamba | 2019-11-08

SENSATIONAL house music spinner and incumbent MTN SWAMA DJ of the Year, DJ Zulu D, has scored his first ever overseas booking.

Popularly known as Mr 4 hours, the DJ is billed to perform at the Africa Unites Show on February 29, 2020 in Taiwan.

Taking to social media yesterday, DJ Zulu D wrote: “Thank you Ntate God. First overseas booking. #ZuluD #Mr4hours #MegasoundDJ”.

In less than three hours, the post had garnered over 300 reactions and 40 comments, with several personalities congratulating the hardworking and consistent deejay for his latest feat.

“I am very excited over this consideration. Headlining a show in another continent thousands of miles away from home has always been my dream, and I can only thank the Almighty for such blessings. Of course, this recognition is a result of hard work invested over the years, consistency, and being true to oneself,” said Zulu D in an interview.

He said the Taiwan show would be an opportunity to showcase the level of growth among Eswatini’s arts.

The Africa Unites Taiwan will be held in the spectacular city of Taipei, the capital, and it is estimated that it will be attended by over 3000 international and Taiwanese students. The show is organised by Eswatini and South African students.

Trendsetters

Reacting to the news, SWAMA Secretary for Publicity and Communication Penny Bouwer said this was enthralling piece of news that would inspire practising and aspiring DJs. “We wish DJ Zulu D all the best as he continues to be among trendsetters locally in as far as exporting local arts is concerned. His industriousness cannot go unnoticed,” said Bouwer.

SWAMA Secretary General Bongani Dube said  Zulu D was among a few local DJs who were doing the most this year, and said such demonstrated the industry’s capability to contribute in uplifting the country’s economy if well-funded.

“While it is too early to even presume the arts industry in the country is heading towards maturity, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to affirm that all the groundwork is being set by the artists themselves with support from the government and the private sector. However, more resources are still needed towards formalising the sector into a measurable industry; hence such game-changing moves as those of DJ Zulu D and others would certainly influence decisions and generate the much needed and concrete commitment from more players in both the public and private sectors,” said Dube.

Fellow spinner, DJ Speech Umlangeni congratulated DJ Zulu D and said the time to grace global arenas was now.

Others who congratulated Zulu D were Dynamic Groovers’ Dumisani ‘Deeyou’ Simelane; STTP’s Mehluli Ndlovu, Magasa Foundation’s Clifford Ndlovu, and sensational Afro-pop artist JezMan.
