MAN KILLED AT FUNTOWN

By Mbono Mdluli | 2019-08-19

An unfortunate incident has engulfed a Littler family as their member was killed right at the popular hangout spot that the family runs.

The incident happened in the wee hours of yesterday, where Bongani Littler (45) was killed by a friend at Funtown Bar, which is situated at Fonteyn in Mbabane. Littler is said to have been with his alleged assailant, Simanga Dunn (28).

When the news team from this publication arrived at the scene at around 10:30am, members of the Littler family were found cleaning the place.

All the people at the place were in a sombre mood, showing that they were still in shock.

The police, according to some people at the scene, had already left the place. Dunn is also said to have already been arrested at the time.

According to a Fonteyn resident that is close to the matter, the incident happened when the bar was closed at  midnight. The resident asked to relate the matter on condition of anonymity. Dunn is said to have chased Littler and tried to forcefully take his shoes. Upon seeing that Littler resisted the attempt, Dunn allegedly resorted to stab him on the neck, which led to his death.

The resident informed this publication that the business was under surveillance from CCTV cameras and the incident was captured by the CCTV cameras. The CCTV footage, according to the resident, showed no fight between the two people.

Footage

What was shown by the footage, according to the resident, was Dunn chasing Littler around the entrance of the bar. Dunn’s aim, according to the source, was to forcefully take Littler’s belongings from him, but Littler would not allow that to happen. That was what must have angered Dunn, who decided to stab Littler.

The resident said Funtown was not one of the bars that were crime-infested. There had been no such incidents at the bar in its four-year history, according to the resident.

He stated that the people of Fonteyn knew that it was not a place where fights would normally break out.

He stated that they were shocked by the whole incident because it was not like the two were in a fight and whatever differences between the two could have been resolved. No one had to die in such a manner.

Police are said to have arrived at the scene early in the morning yesterday, after having been informed of the incident. The police are said to have recorded statements and subsequently arrested Dunn yesterday morning.

Members of the Littler family refused to talk to this publication, as they were still busy trying to clean the place after the unfortunate incident.

Chief Police Information and Communication Officer (CPICO) Phindile Vilakati confirmed the incident.

She said the deceased was 45 years old, while the suspect was 28 years old.
