KING: GIVE ME A PRIME MINISTER

By Mbono Mdluli and Sabelo Majol | 2018-10-25

His Majesty King Mswati III made democratic history yesterday.

In between anxious screams of Bayethe, Ingwenyama kept the thousands of Emaswati that converged at the Ludzidzini Royal Residence Cattle Byre guessing before throwing a big challenge that has never been thrown at them before.

Ingwenyama tasked all Emaswati to help him pick the right candidate for the vacant prime minister position.

As a result, he commissioned the highest legislative forum in the land, the People’s Parliament. This is where Emaswati take centre stage to suggest means and ways on how the country should be run.

The People’s Parliament starts today until Saturday where Ingwenyama will after reviewing all the suggestions to be presented, appoint the prime minister who would have been suggested by the nation. Political commentators lauded the bold move by the king of an all inclusive decision making. It is the first time in recent history for the nation to be challenged to help identify the head of government candidate. It also shows the maturity of our democracy.

Loud screams of Bayethe reverberated within the full to capacity cattle byre immediately after the King threw the big challenge to his people. The nation accepted the challenge with both hands. The nation was happy. The nation was satisfied. The nation felt very much involved.

The King assured the nation that he would be following the proceedings of the People’s Parliament to ensure that he picks all the ideas that would be presented by the nation.

Ingwenyama also challenged individuals who feel can grab the bull by its horns in as far as the job of being PM was concerned not to shy away from the stage to outline their strategic plans.

He said this would help him reach a decision to be embraced by all. The King wore a satisfied smile as he said this.

Speech

In his speech that lasted for about 20 minutes, the King kept the nation in suspense on the name of the PM. There was a time when everyone thought he would pronounce the name but then again held back to the amusement of the nation.

“Before I give you the name of the next premier, let me just give you a chance so that you also share your opinions on this subject matter.

“On Saturday, I will give you the person who will be the prime minister, but I will be listening to your opinions and the decision I will take will be based on them. I hope that even the people who hope to be the prime minister will also have an opportunity to make their own contributions,” he said to loud screams of Bayethe.

In his address, the King lauded the nation for participating in the national elections and thanked local and international election observers for taking their time to observe the elections in the country.
