By Hlengiwe Ndlovu | 2018-10-17

PIGG’s Peak is one of Eswatini’s growing towns, hence Eswatini Electricity Company has announced its plans to construct a new 66/11 kv substation in an effort to improve reliability of power supply in this area.

The company has since invited suitable contractors to submit their proposals for this project whose scope covers design, construction, equipment installation and commissioning.

This is according to documents first published in the Swaziland Public Procurement Regulatory Agency (SPPRA) website yesterday.

To demonstrate their understanding of what is expected of them, bidders  have been invited to provide a methodology showing how the design, construction and supervision exercise will be carried out.

As part of the design, the qualifying contractor is expected to design the substation platform that will take into account the slope stated in the specification.

The contractor will further design metering, protection and automation schemes as well as design suitable structures and foundations.

The substation’s control room and guard house must also be designed by the contractor who is also expected to produce built drawings.

The electro-mechanical aspects of this contract entail: installing an electromechanical primary plant equipment together with all related steel work; supplying and installing 11 kV switchgear; supplying protection and automation panels; supplying and installing substation lighting and commissioning the plant.

The project (design and construction) is expected to be completed within 12 months from the date of signing the agreement between EEC and the engaged contractor.
