Loose-tongued Elections and Boundaries (EBC) Commissioner Ncumbi Maziya continues to make startling allegations.
First, he alleged that MPs sold Senate seats for E60 000 to people who aspired to be senators.
MPs are expected to elect 10 Senate members after the election of the speaker. Maziya has once again accused prominent figures contesting elections of rigging the polls and expressed his wish that they are exposed and arrested to deter would-be elections riggers.
“How I wish to have some of the prominent figures who have joined the race to Parliament be exposed of corruption so that others can also learn a lesson,” said Maziya, withour mentioning names.
He stressed that ideally the law should be non-discriminatory. He said it broke his heart to see what he referred to as ‘small fries’ always feeling the wrath of the law instead of the big guns.
Maziya was addressing Shiselweni candidates who have qualified for the secondary elections under the Indvuna Yenkhundla and Member of Parliament categories.
The meeting was at the Teacher’s Resource Centre in Nhlangano.
“It’s one of my wishes that we have some of these prominent figures arrested for what they do when it is time for elections. They are known and they think their wealth is the only passport to Parliament. Let at least one of the so-called heavyweights be exposed as they are corrupt. It’s time as a country we put such people in their right place. We can’t allow them to do as they please because they have money and they even bribe their way to be lawmakers,” said the tough talking Maziya.
Maziya said EBC was having its eyes wide opened to make sure that the so called money spinners were not allowed to influence the elections.
He said there were known individuals boasting of wealth and were not even prepared to respect the laws of the land.
“Kukhohlakala kugcwele ngenca yekutsi bantfu bayesatjwa ngoba banemali,” he said in vernacular.
Turning to the candidates, Maziya said there were those who were abusing Emaswati by enticing them with something just to win their hearts and once they win the race to Parliament, they forget about these people.
He said others have money to seek services of traditional healers in order to win.
Maziya said some MPs once they elected start acting like the whole world was under their feet.
“It’s disgusting what some of you do once you get to that place (Parliament) and you want to be referred to as honourable when you know that you are dishonourable,” said Maziya
Maziya said it was sad that Emaswati took their time to vote for people they hoped would change their lives only to be disappointed.
“You are desperate for their votes but when they vote for you, you forget about them, nidlala ngalesive se-Nkhosi,” said Maziya.
