SOCCER - Mbabane Swallows are now faced with a dilemma on who of their five foreign players must be released to make way for new acquisition Kola Aledeon.
The Eswatini Football Association (EFA) Players' Status Committee (PSC) yesterday ruled that Aledeon was rightfully a Mbabane Swallows player, thus clearing the way for him to be registered by the club, first locally and then in the CAF Champions League.
However, local top flight clubs can only register up to five foreign players at a time. Swallows already have five foreign players with Aledeon's arrival making them six.
On top of fellow new signings, SallieuTarawallie and Amougou Jean Claude, who were unveiled on Wednesday, Swallows also have defender Stanley Umukoro, midfielder Richard Sewu and striker Daniel Atakorah in their books. Aledeon’s arrival, therefore, means one of those five has to make way.
Leaving
Interviewed yesterday, the club's General Manager Sandile ' Beyond 2000' Zwane said they already knew who would be leaving.
"As we always do, we will call you once everything has been finalised and inform you who will be departing.
The coach has already told us who will make way but let us finalise certain things first and then we will inform you," Zwane said.
South African defender Siphamandla Mathenjwa has already departed the club. Striker Atakorah looks the most likely candidate to make way. The Ghananian forward was one of the late club boss Victor Gamedze's last signings, arriving in January earlier this year alongside midfielder Sewu.
However, Atakorah has failed to live up to expectations, scoring only once and mainly playing second fiddle to Sandile Hlatjwako in the striking pecking order.
