APPLICATIONS for the 2019 AfriMusic Song Contest will open in October.
This is according to a communiqué sent by the AfriMusic Song Contest communications panel to the Entertainment Desk yesterday.
The AfriMusic Song Contest is a contest inspired by the Eurovision Song Contest, which is loosely meant for European countries.
The inaugural AfriMusic Song Contest (meant for African countries) was won by local urban soul artist Symphony, which then granted her the opportunity to perform at the Eurovision Song Contest last month in Portugal.
Just as the Eurovision Song Contest does, the AfriMusic Song Contest Finale will take place in Eswatini next year as it is a written rule that the country of origin of the eventual winner is then the host of the following year’s contest finale.
This means that over 40 musicians will converge in the country for the contest which runs for a weekend.
Applications will be open to all songwriters and musicians on digital platforms.
During the inaugural AfriMusic Song Contest, Symphony was not the only local artist that entered for the competition; rapper Flameboy Universe and songstress Sasha also took part.
Aspiring musicians apply and later go through a voting process whereby fans vote as much as possible for their favoured musician.
After the voting process, shortlisted musicians are then given guidelines to follow before the contest finale.
According to the organisers of the contest, it is meant to reward African talent that deserves the international stage.
