MOTHER PUTS BABY IN REFUSE BAG, DUMPS IT IN DUSTBIN

A child was found dumped in a dustbin yesterday evening in one of the streets of Mbabane.

The child, who looked a few days old, was found wrapped in a black refuse bag and thrown into a dustbin at the traffic circle along Gwamile Street.

The child was found by a young man estimated to be in his 20s. The young man, who did not want to reveal his name, said he heard a sound of a crying child coming from the dustbin. The child was found at about 7pm.

“I was walking past the traffic circle when I heard the sound of a crying baby coming from the dustbin. I could not believe it at first, but upon hearing the sound, I went to find out what it was because I could not think it could be a child. I thought it was a cat maybe,” he said. He further stated that upon opening the black plastic bag, he was shocked to find that it was a child.

He then took the child and gave it to security guards from 4Him Security Services, who are stationed at the Municipal Council of Mbabane.

Personnel from the Emergency Medical Services (popularly known as paramedics) were called to take the child to hospital for further examination.

Police were also called to record some statements on the incident. They had not arrived at the time of compiling this report.
