AFRIMUSIC SONG CONTEST TO BE HELD HERE NEXT YEAR

By Nomfundo Sifundza | 2018-05-23

ALL thanks to Symphony, the prestigious AfriMusic Song Contest will be held in Eswatini next year.

This was confirmed by a music distributor based in the United Kingdom Sibusiso ‘King Siso’ Ntshangase, who is responsible for Symphony’s entry in the prestigious contest.

It is Symphony’s triumph in the contest that has made it possible for the country to host such a remarkable, big and prestigious contest whereby 42 nationalities converge to watch the different performers do what they do best.

It is the custom of the AfriMusic Song Contest that the next is then held in the country of birth of the winner.

Symphony made this possible for the country after first scooping the ‘Best English Lyrics Award’ in the contest, which was followed by the singer actually winning the entire contest.

Her triumph saw her represent not only Eswatini but the entire continent of Africa in the contest, which was held earlier this month in Portugal.

The AFriMusic Song Contest is loosely inspired by the Eurovision Song Contest.

The contest is planned to continue as an annual event, acting as an African version to the European and Asian editions of Eurovision.

Through an expert panel, the winners were decided by a public vote.

It is the singer’s ‘Sengikhona’ song that made her stand taller than the rest alongside other stars from several countries.

‘Sengikhona’ is also the title song for her debut album. The song has both English and Siswati lyrics, hence she was in a position to win the ‘Best English Lyrics’ awards.

However, since these are the early and plannery stages for the contest to be staged in Africa, ‘King Siso’ was not in a position to reveal the exact dates, venue and other details about the Eswatini version of the AfriMusic Song Contest.
