COPS GO AFTER CRAZY SOCIAL MEDIA STUNTMAN

By Sabelo Majola | 2018-05-22

Police are looking for a young stuntman from Manzini who has taken social media by storm with his nerve-wrecking stunts that have a potential of either taking his life or that of motorists.

The young man identified as Shafee Vino from Manzini has so far staged two daring stunts that had the potential of causing nasty traffic accidents that could have claimed hundreds of lives.

Stunt

In one of the stunts, Vino, who seems to have his own team recording the life threatening stunts, jumps over a speeding car. He is heard on the video warning his team of recorders to be on alert.

He readies himself and as the vehicle approaches the place he is at, and then jumps over the vehicle in the opposite direction. The video has been uploaded on the social networks and is trending.

The young man from Trelawney Park, who is in his early 20s, is seen in a Facebook clip jumping over the speeding vehicle and landing on his two feet without being hit by the car.

In the other breath-taking video clip, it shows Vino lying flat in the middle of the road while a speeding bus, Intamakuphila, drives over him and he rises up unhurt.

Vino positions himself to be in the middle of the bus’ tyres. It is sheer luck that the bus driver is not disturbed by the man lying in the middle of the road. However, he does blow the horn.

The  bus could have injured its passengers if the driver panicked and attempted to avoid running over the stunt master.

In one of the video clips, he is heard saying ‘you got to pay the cost to be the boss’ before carrying out his stunt in a hazardous fashion.

When contacted yesterday, the enthusiastic athlete, who is believed to be former Hub Sundowns football club player, said he does the stunts to market a brand that he works with which is situated in Manzini.

Vino said the videos are shot in a controlled environment, not one that poses danger to him and the people driving the vehicles. He added that the stunts he does are then taken for editing at the company that he works with.

“The videos are entirely genuine. There is some editing that goes into them before we upload them on social media but 80 per cent of it is what I actually do. I work with Semi-tone Records in Manzini and we shoot videos so this is just a way of marketing the brand and showing what we do,” he said.

Video

Vino said he does has previous videos but they are not as risky as the ones recently posted and he was previously using them for personal consumption before actually deciding to share on social media.

Police have sent a stern warning to Vino on the dangerous stunts he stages on public roads and post the video clips on social media.

Police Information and Communications Officer (PICO) Khulani Mamba, who said they were looking for Vino, cautioned him against the stunts saying he is going to pollute the nation.

Mamba said social media users, particularly children, will want to emulate his stunts which could result in horrible accidents.

“On social media we have children who would want to emulate the guy and think it is possible to do what he is seen doing in the videos and that won’t end well. Parents have already raised concerns over the video and we want to warn the man to refrain from what he is doing before he gets himself in trouble with the law,” he said.

Mamba said they have not charged the man but they did try to look for him to warn him against his dangerous stunts.

“Word has it that he is in South Africa but we gathered that he is a Swazi. The surroundings and the vehicles he does his stunts on prove that indeed the videos were shot in our local roads. We want to send a strong warning to him against his acts or the law will take its course,” said Mamba.

The videos have opened debates on social media with people questioning the authenticity of the clips while others  believe that they are original.
