SWALLOWS SET TO KEEP INGWENYAMA CUP TROPHY

By Sibongiseni Zondi | 2018-03-20

SOCCER - MBABANE Swallows will keep the SMVAF Ingwenyama Cup trophy for good if they beat Royal Leopard in the final on Sunday.

Swallows and Leopard will meet in the hugely anticipated decider, two years after they met in the inaugural edition final when Swallows won 2-0. Swallows beat Buffaloes 1-0 in last season’s final. With the ‘Birds’ now in with a chance to win the competition for the third time, they will get to keep the trophy permanently if they are successful on Sunday.

“If a club wins the competition three (3) times, it will be entitled to keep the trophy permanently and counting will begin from zero for the clubs,” Article 2 (3) of the tournament’s rules and regulations reads.

Reached for comment yesterday, the tournament’s PRO Nkhosilenhle ‘Makawosi’ Masuku confirmed that, as per the rules, a Swallows victory would mean keeping the trophy permanently. Masuku also confirmed other logistics pertaining the big day of the final.

“Yes, Swallows will keep the trophy permanently if they win on Sunday. So far, preparations for the big day are going very well.

The two sides will get their jerseys for the final on Wednesday (tomorrow) courtesy of the sponsors MVA. Gates will open at 7 am on Sunday. We are hoping it will be a beautiful National Sports Day. We hope to have athletics on the day as well as social games, culture and, of course, the main attraction which will be the match between Swallows and Leopard. At the gates, the public will have to part with E40,” Masuku said.
