By Nozipho Sibiya | 2018-02-20

The Swaziland Electricity Company (SEC) has proven to be a compassionate company indeed.

It has forked out E120 000 to be shared by the eight families of the victims who lost their lives in the tragic accident involving the company’s truck along the Pigg’s Peak public road.

The accident happened last Friday.

Six people died on the spot while the seventh and eighth died while undergoing treatment at the government hospital.

SEC Marketing and Corporate Affairs Manager Sifiso Dhlamini confirmed that families of the victims will each receive E15 000 that will cover funeral and related costs.

Dhlamini said SEC executive management; Hhohho Kombis association joined a heart broken Managing Director Meshack Kunene when visiting some of the victims’ families.

Appreciated

“The families gave us a warm welcome during the visits and we really appreciated that,” said Dhlamini further mentioning that yesterday they were able to visit five families.

The purpose of the visit was for SEC to mourn the deaths of the victims who lost their lives during the horrific accident where a company truck collided with a Toyota Quantum that was headed towards Pigg’s Peak.

Dhlamini said the families of the victims were extremely pleased by the kind gesture extended by the company.

Pity

“Relatives of the victims mentioned they also felt pity for the company as the accident could not have been avoided as it was God’s plan,” he said.

Currently the MD has suspended scheduled tours that were to begin yesterday in total respect of the families that have lost their loved ones.
