‘WE’RE ALREADY WORKING ON CULTURE DOCUMENTARY’

By Khetsiwe Khumalo | 2025-03-26

THE ministry of sports, culture and youth affairs in partnership with the ministry of tourism and environmental affairs are working on a documentary to promote and showcase the country’s culture.

This was disclosed by minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs Bongani Nzima, during a senate sitting in Parliament.
This was in response to senators questions during the ministry’s annual performance report for the financial year 2024/25 and budget debate for the financial year 2025/26.
Most of the questions posed were in relation to the promotion of arts and culture. Princess Ncengencenge asked if the ministry promotes cultural collaborations within the arts.

Responding, Nzima said the ministry had established choreography of arts and culture for international and local stages.

“The ministry in collaboration with the ministry of tourism is developing a documentary for marketing the country with culture as the main drawcard. Further, the ministry’s development plans and concepts involve culture days in schools, chiefdoms, communities where educational and competitive culture events are held periodically,” said Nzima.

The princess further asked what the ministry was doing to promote culture, particularly during the Ingwenyama Cup.
The minister said the ministry does not necessarily run the competition, but is involved in the technical aspect of culture and football, however, welcomed and acknowledged advice.

On a different note, Senator Tony Sibandze requested to know what the ministry was doing to promote artist representation around the world.

Nzima said; “The ministry established regional arts centres with the sole purpose of identifying talent, nurturing and promoting talent intentionally for importation and the programme is already paying dividends. The ministry recently hosted an arts summit where declarations and agreements were sealed to develop and collaborate with regional film and music.”
