WITH His Majesty King Mswati III already championing the vision of first world status for Eswatini, Lutsango's pivotal contribution is set to play a significant role in this ambitious journey.
The king addressed the Lutsango regiment at the Hlane Royal Residence during the second leg of the Buganu Festival on Sunday, reiterating his vision for the country’s development.
He emphasised the vital role that Lutsango played in attaining first world, highlighting its positive evolution overtime.
The king also noted the increasing diversity and expertise amongst Lutsango, acknowledging the presence of graduates and specialists in the regiment.
He stressed that their skills and knowledge were crucial for the nation’s progress and could help reduce unemployment and poverty.
“We hope that Lutsango will continue to uplift the country, as the name itself means ‘protection barrier.’ We look forward to Lutsango helping the country grow in welfare, health, education, and technology. This can be achieved through unity, and with the country striving for first world status, we aim for full employment.
“With Lutsango consisting of graduates and experts, we hope to one day declare that poverty and unemployment are things of the past,” said the king.
Following the official declaration of March 10 as the first Lutsango holiday, His Majesty mentioned that the introduction of this holiday was a demonstration of Eswatini’s commitment to gender equality and women’s empowerment.
While addressing thousands of women at the Hlane Royal Residence, he added: “that’s why the Lutsango holiday has been introduced in line with International Women’s Day. Here in Eswatini, we don’t just talk about women empowerment; we actively implement policies that promote women and their welfare.”

The king also remarked that Lutsango was expected to teach culture and tradition, while instilling respect amongst the youth who will become the country’s future leaders.
He praised the nation for being among the first to recognise women by designating a holiday, calling it an acknowledgment of their contributions to society.
In addition, the king noted that the growth of the festival had attracted more tourists eager to experience this culturally rich event, which would in turn have a positive impact on the economy.
He expressed the need to expand the dancing arena used by Lutsango, as it had become evident that more space is necessary for the regiment to perform effectively.
His Majesty also thanked Lutsango for their commitment to preserving culture and respect since the beginning of the festival at Buhleni.
