SOCCER - SITSEBE Samhlekazi have failed to qualify for the TotalEnergies WAFCON finals after suffering a 1-0 to Namibia at Dobsonville Stadium yesterday.
Going into the match, Namibia held a significant advantage after their 3-0 victory in the first leg played at Somhlolo Stadium last Friday. Eswatini was looking to turn the tide and secure a positive result on South African soil, which has also served as a second home for the Namibian team due to the unfit playing conditions in their own country.
Namibia started the match with a furious attacking intent, pressing Eswatini from the first whistle.
The sparse crowd witnessed a determined effort from the Brave Gladiators, as they searched for the opening goal.
Eswatini's defence, however, remained resolute in the early stages. As the match progressed, Eswatini began to gain confidence and asserted themselves in the game.
However, it was Namibia, who found the breakthrough in the 32nd minute, with Asteria Angula unleashing a shot that deflected into the net.
Eswatini's Lindelwa Dlaminui came close to equalising just before the half-time break, unleashing a powerful shot that was expertly saved by Namibia's goalkeeper Melisa Matheus.
The second half saw Namibia making a double substitution as they continued to dominate the proceedings.
Eswatini, on the other hand, struggled to maintain their momentum and eventually ran out of steam, as the match finished with Namibia securing a narrow 1-0 victory.
