ROADSIDE GRADUATE HIRED

By KWANELE SIBIYA | 2025-01-24

A graduate who was so desperate for work that she begged for a job at the side of a busy road while wearing her graduation gown has found employment.

Simile Masuku (24) has been searching for work after graduating from the Southern Africa Nazarene University with a degree in Business Management since 2023.

Now, over a year later, she has been rewarded with employment at emlembe Beverages in Matsapha.

Following her appearance in the media, the graduate was inundated with job offers and swamped with media attention.

One of the calls came from the company, which invited her for an interview last week Wednesday.
Expressing her excitement, Masuku said she started work last week Thursday, a day after she went for the interview.

“However, I am on probation for now,” she said.
Masuku further expressed her gratitude to the company’s management for offering her what she described as a life-changing opportunity.

She further extended her appreciation to the management for the great hospitality they have afforded her since she joined the company.

Following the show of bravado, she highlighted the high unemployment rate in the country, saying many young people, particularly those who were unemployed, reached out and congratulated her for her bold act.

Masuku said as a result, she has decided to assist other young unemployed graduates find jobs.
This, she said, she would do by organising a job-hunting campaign, whereby unemployed graduates who contact her would  take to the streets in their graduation gowns, carrying placards and their academic qualifications and plead for jobs.

Masuku said the aim of the campaign was to voice out the plight of many unemployed graduates who were suffering in silence.

According to Masuku, she would soon announce the venue and the date on which the campaign will take place.

She mentioned that many young people were unemployed, but they could not boldly cry out for help, hence the campaign would help amplify their voice.
