SOCCER - HUNGRY for blood!
The power struggle at Mbabane Highlanders is worsening by each passing day as two of the team's patrons were attacked as a result of the warring factions.
Reports suggest that patrons Vice -Chairman Moses Dlamini and Secretary Musa Masuku were attacked on Friday as the warring factions, led by the National Supporters Committee (NSC), demanded that the team should be handed over to an unidentified businessman.
So serious is the situation that the matter has been reported to the police. Clad in the team's T-shirts, one faction of the agitated warring factions assembled on Friday during lunch hour at Mbabane Bus Rank, before storming Masuku's office situated opposite Madlenya House.
Information gathered is that upon reaching the office, the faction demanded the club's paperwork and asked him why he was derailing the takeover by the potential director.
"They left about an hour later. However, they attacked him again in the evening, this time at Ezulwini while he was in a meeting, preparing for the Green Mamba match. It was a tense situation, as they also blocked his car while he tried to evade them. Police intervened after a tip-off," said the source.
The source further divulged that after the incident, the faction called Dlamini and insulted him over the phone, accusing him of having a hand in the team's struggles.
The vice-chairman did not take kindly to the attack and reported the matter to the Mbabane Police Station.
Dlamini confirmed that the matter was now with the police when contacted yesterday morning.
"Since the matter is now with the police, it would be folly of me to go into details on what transpired.
“But what I can say is that I was subjected to insults and threats for nothing. I really don't know my sins. I am a Highlanders person at heart and feel the pain when the team is losing," he said.
Several attempts to get Masuku were futile as his phone rang unanswered. Messages were also sent via WhatsApp but he did not respond.
Meanwhile, in October police were called to the then team's club-house, situated at Goje Township after one of the factions attempted to disrupt a press conference convened by the past Management Committee.
Mbabane Highlanders, a team that earned respect both on and off the field, is now fading away.
The crowd-pulling side has collected 10 points since the season started and lies in a precarious position on the log standings.
