The Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) has warned any organisations or individuals who may want to take advantage of the prevailing political unrest situation in the neighbouring Mozambique and threaten peace and security in the country.
The police said they were fully aware of the prevailing political situation in Mozambique and were equally cognisant of its implications on the overall safety and security landscape in the region and surrounding countries, especially in Eswatini.
Chief Police Information and Communications Officer (PICO) Superintendent Phindile Vilakati in a statement yesterday revealed that it had come to their attention that certain organisations or individuals wanted to take advantage of the situation and use it as a decoy to commit criminal acts.
“As a police service we would like to send a strong caution to these elements who intend to fulfil egocentric agendas at the expense of the national security.
Therefore, as an organization entrusted with safeguarding the peace, tranquillity and sovereignty of the country, we are alive and well prepared to deal with any and all possible eventualities that may be consequent of this situation,” she said.
In the spirit of jealous patriotism and cooperation, she further urged all Emaswati to heighten their sense of vigilance and alertness in order to promptly report any elements that have a potential to threaten the safety and security landscape.
“We also urge members of the public to report all persons who will be coming to their homes seeking for any assistance to the relevant authorities,” she added.
She then reassured the nation of the police service’s capability to maintain law and order in the country and its commitment to deliver on its mandate.
