SOCCER - NO money, no game!
This is the decision made by Mbabane Swallows players after their meeting with the Absalom Ngwenya-led MC yesterday.
This came after the Premier League of Eswatini resolved the power struggle, successfully, negotiating the return of the old MC pending finalisation of the handover to the late Swallows boss Victor Gamedze's wife Princess Lungile after they surrendered power last week.
Swallows players have not been training for over two weeks now after experiencing a tumultuous period regarding their salaries. It is alleged that the players have gone unpaid for the past three months, with their last payment being received in September and even that was for only half salaries.
This troubling situation has likely caused significant financial strain and uncertainty for the players, who have nevertheless continued to perform their duties on the field despite the absence of compensation.
According to one of players who spoke on condition of anonymity, the MC asked for players’ compliance while trying to find someone who would pay their salaries.
“They have stated it clear that they do have the money , but said they were going to meet someone at Lobamba to ask for financial assistance and we will not go to the game if not given what is rightfully ours.,” said the player.
Swallows FC acting President Absalom Ngwenya previously declared they had no money to pay players their salaries.
Ngwenya purportedly made this statement during a hearing held at the Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration Commission (CMAC) offices last month.
Swallows Public Relations Officer Knowledge Ngwenya confirmed having a meeting with players yesterday, saying the players were expected to start training this morning.
“What I know is that we have resolved that the team will be back to training tomorrow.
We are working on something regarding their salaries since taking back the team on Monday.
We have talked to players and we are hoping for something positive before our game against Nsingizini,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mbabane Swallows will host Nsingizini Hotspurs at Mavuso Sports Centre on Sunday.
