Meet Makhosanele Sibandze; A dynamic young entrepreneur from Mahlalini in the Shiselweni region, is making waves in the agricultural sector as the founder and director of Gojes Investment Company.
Established in September 2022, Gojes Investment was dedicated to vegetable farming, leveraging the region's resources to deliver fresh produce to local markets.
With a passion for agriculture and essential resources at hand such as access to water and fenced land Makhosanele embarked on this entrepreneurial journey.
Specialisation and Clientele
Gojes Investment currently specialises in growing onions, beetroots, butternuts, and lettuce, supplying esteemed clients including Thubelisha Fruits and Veg, Spar supermarkets, and independent resellers who stock these fresh vegetables for their customers.
Entrepreneurial Journey
Before diving into vegetable farming, Makhosanele's entrepreneurial path began with a feedlot venture, where he invested significantly in hopes of profitability.
However, faced with the high costs of feed versus selling prices, he was compelled to shift his focus to vegetable farming—a decision that has since blossomed into a thriving business.
Support and Growth
Makhosanele is also a proud alumnus of the Junior Achievement program, specifically the JA/UNICEF 2023 Generation Unlimited initiative, which equips youth with essential entrepreneurship skills.
This program has been pivotal in helping him uncover his potential as a businessman, allowing him to dedicate his time to cultivating Gojes Investment and exploring new business opportunities, rather than pursuing traditional employment. The fruits of his labour not only foster his financial independence but also enable him to support his family.
Mentorship
Enthusiastic about his entrepreneurial journey, Makhosanele credits his success to his mentor, his brother Samkelo Sibandze. “I am grateful to have a family member who is very patient with me. Looking at his achievements, I am happy to be taking the entrepreneurship journey with him by my side,” he shares.
Future Plans
Looking ahead, Makhosanele has ambitious plans for Gojes Investment over the next three years. His vision includes maximising production on the farm and expanding the business to include a fruit and vegetable shop in Nhlangano.
Message to Aspiring Farmers
Makhosanele’s message to aspiring young farmers is clear: “Agriculture is very profitable if done with passion. Every household will have a vegetable in their everyday meal, thus you are guaranteed a market for your produce.
Additionally, agriculture significantly contributes to the economy and creates employment opportunities.” Join Makhosanele on this exciting journey of growth and discovery in fresh produce.
