SOCCER - The rivalry between Green Mamba and Nsingizini Hotspurs intensifies as the two sides face off this afternoon at the King Sobhuza II Stadium.
With the stakes higher than ever, Green Mamba Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mandla Sibiya has emphasised the importance of this match, which could see his team ascend to the top of the league standings.
Having secured three consecutive victories in their recent matches, Green Mamba aims to extend their winning streak.
Denied
However, Nsingizini Hotspurs, who denied Green Mamba the league title last season with a crucial victory, will be eager to maintain their dominance. Despite last season's league upset, Green Mamba managed to exact revenge in the Ingwenyama Cup, eliminating the Shiselweni-based outfit from the competition.
Sibiya described the fixture as a defining moment for the Correctional Services side.
“Today’s game is a tough one, especially because it is a revenge match. Nsingizini were the reason we missed out on the league last season, so we will be going all out.
Whoever wins among the top three this weekend will end up top of the league, so this is a huge weekend for all competing teams,” he said.
Sibiya also highlighted the team's objective to remain in contention for the title by finishing the first round within the top four.
“As long as we finish the first round within the top-four bracket, we will be very content. The important thing is to ensure we finish the round strong to challenge for the title,” he added.
Challenged
Green Mamba will, however, face the challenge of missing key players, including Innocent Dlamini and Khwenzokuhle Khumalo, who remain sidelined with injuries.
On the other side, Nsingizini Hotspurs are equally determined to secure victory. Speaking ahead of the match, Public Relations Officer (PRO), Mnotfo Nkosi expressed confidence in his team’s preparations.
“We will be playing in our own backyard and we are yet to taste defeat at our favourite hunting ground. This match is huge for both teams as whoever wins could top the log, so we are well-prepared,” he said.
With both teams eyeing the top spot and a chance to solidify their positions as title contenders, today’s encounter promises to deliver high-intensity football. Green Mamba seeks ‘double delight’ over Hotspurs, while the Shiselweni-based side aims to maintain their stronghold at home.
The King Sobhuza II Stadium is set to witness another thrilling chapter in this ongoing rivalry. All eyes will be on which side can seize the moment and claim the vital three points.
