BIRDS ALMOST MISSED REGISTRATION DEADLINE LAST SEASON

By Mgcini Dube | 2024-08-24

SOCCER - Mbabane Swallows Chairman Welile Mabuza revealed that they almost missed the registration deadline for the 2023/2024 season due to financial constraints.

Mabuza revealed this during the media briefing that was held in one of the team’s offices on Thursday, stating that it was disappointing that the faction backing former club boss Victor Gamedze’s Princess Lungile was nowhere to be found when they needed financial assistance to run the club.

“Last season we registered 10 minutes before deadline which was 11:50pm, after we had been trying to ensure we had all the requirements to compete. This is why it is surprising that there are people who claim that they are the rightful leaders of the club, but were not there when we needed them the most.

“Despite those challenges we managed to register and won the league, and seemingly now that everything looks like it is going well, people want to come back to the club and claim that they are the rightful owners, which is not right,” he said.

Meanwhile Board of Governor Sandile ‘Beyond 2000’ Zwane said the disturbances were timing and believed that they were meant to disrupt their preparations.

“Look we managed to play well and reached three finals and we then managed to win the league, it was not easy but we had love for the team and we had to make a plan and put things together.
“These claims are just meant to disrupt us and they always happen around this time every year before we start the new season and this has to stop,” he said.

Zwane further appreciated Bishop Bheki Lukhele for supporting the team since it was dumped by Princess Lungile who walked away with all the resources.

“Lukhele has been the pillar of the team, all this success reflects back to his great investments. “We will always respect him for that and we are looking forward to continue working with him with a single goal of taking the club forward.

“When Princess Lungile left the team, she left with everything including team uniforms, a club house and a sprinter that was then sold to our rivals Mbabane Highlanders which was so disappointing,” he said.
