8 000 ATTEND SUCCESSFUL EMBIVENI BIGGEST BRAAI

By KWANELE SIBIYA | 2024-07-27

THE 8th edition of the Embiveni Biggest Braai, which was attended by about 8 000 people, was a resounding success.

This was disclosed by Chairman of Philani Maswati Charity Organisation Lutfo Dlamini yesterday during a press conference held at the Municipal Council of Manzini chambers.

Dlamini expressed his heartfelt appreciation to the different stakeholders and sponsors who participated in the event.
the event took place on Saturday at Mavuso Exhibition and Trade Centre.

He appreciated their title sponsor Eswatini Meat Industries (Embiveni), which provided quality meat to the patrons on the day.

Dlamini also appreciated the Municipal Council of Manzini for allowing Philani Maswati Charity Organisation to host the event in their city as well as the ratepayers of the city for being patient with them throughout the event.

He also appreciated Eswatini Investment Promotion Authority (EIPA) for opening their gates and allowing them to host the Embiveni Biggest Braai at the Mavuso Exhibition and Trade Centre.

Dlamini further appreciated the police for working cooperatively with them during the event, through the provision of security and otherwise.  He thanked all the media houses that publicised and advertised the event.

Dlamini further appreciated Eswatini Boxing Association for ensuring that the boxing bouts in both the female and male categories were a success.

He also appreciated the ministry of health and the Deputy Prime Minister’s office for their unwavering support during the event. He said the sponsors and the stakeholders were too many to mention and as such, they would have to find time to appreciate each and every one of them.
Dlamini also appreciated the patron of Philani Maswati Charity Organisation Her Majesty the Indlovukazi for being the visionary leader that she is.

“Her Majesty came up with Philani Maswati Charity Organisation, which was her brainchild and it gave birth to the Biggest Braai event that has now taken a different dimension, as it is no longer an event that belongs to Philani Maswati Charity Organisation, but is now international,” Dlamini said.

He pointed out that this year, the Biggest Braai took a different twist in many respects. First of all, he said, the event was dubbed as Embiveni Biggest Braai after bringing on board Eswatini Meat Industries (Embiveni) as their title sponsor.

Secondly, he said for the first time since the inception of the Biggest Braai, on Saturday, the event was graced by the former president of Botswana Ian Khama.

Thirdly, he said they had an opportunity to celebrate the birthday of a senior citizen aged 113, who was accompanied by his two wives, one aged 67 while the other is 96 years old. Dlamini also pointed out that for the first time, event was graced by the Khoisan Tribe from Botswana, about 980 kilometres away from Eswatini.

He said the Khoisan tribe had an opportunity to provide an educational open lecture for pupils from schools across the country.
Dlamini pointed out that overall, the event was a huge success as no one was reported to have been injured.

“No one is reported to have sustained injuries during or after the event,” Dlamini said.
Dlamini said this calls for them to give thanks to God that despite the fact that people were in a jolly mood, and while it was at night, there was no chaos that erupted.

He mentioned that even though they had not yet accurately compiled the total number of attendees of the 8th Embiveni Biggest Braai, it was estimated that between 7 000 and 8 000 people attended.

He said this calls for a celebration because it shows that Emaswati love Her Majesty the Indlovukazi, so much that after inviting them to the event, they came out in numbers and  showed respect to each other throughout the occasion.

He further mentioned that no one was reported to have become ill during the event; ambulances were also parked at the venue throughout occasion, without rushing anyone to hospital. He said from a security point of view, there were no criminal activities that reportedly took place during the event.
