By MELUSI MLOTSA | 2024-07-27

SOCCER - BOYS will be separated from men when the 2024 Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) elections are held not very far from now.

The football organisation is seemingly heading for a fierce battle as over 14 Board of Governors (BoGs) have been nominated for the seven available Executive positions.

The PLE will go to the polls on August 10, as the current Executive Committee’s term of office is nearing the end.

Some of the teams that preferred annonimity unearthed that the current officer bearers have been nominated to stand for the elections. However, among them are new notable faces in the likes of Nsingizini Hotspurs President Derick Shiba, Illovo Chairman Gcina Ndwandwe, Vusi Kunene of  Green Mamba and Osborne Nzima, who represents Moneni Pirates.

Interestingly, a certain team from Mbabane nominated former Manzini Wanderers director Sandile 'Chief' Dlamini to contest for the elections. The nominees are expected to undergo a vetting process to be conducted by the Eswatini Football Association (EFA) Ethics Committee, headed by Senior Magistrate Siphosini Dlamini.

According to the PLE Constitution, Article 31, the Executive Committee shall consist of chairperson of the league and four additional members.

The term of office for the Executive Committee shall be four years and they may be re-elected. PLE COO Pat Vilakati said: “It is the Ethics Committee that deals with the elections. They will soon call the media and brief you about the candidates who qualify to stand for the elections.”
