By XOLISILE SACOLO | 2024-06-27

SOCCER - THE Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) has confirmed that top performers during the 2023-2024 season will be honoured during an awards ceremony on Thursday.

The event will be held at the Royal Villas, starting at 7pm.

All eyes will be on who will walk away with the coveted MTN Premier League Footballer of the Season award, that always divides opinions among fans.

This was confirmed by PLE CEO Kenneth Makhaya, who said preparations for the awards ceremony were already at an advanced stage.

“We are thrilled to announce the date and time for the highly-anticipated 2023/24 MTN Premier League Awards. We will be awarding top performers on Thursday,” said Makhanya.

He said teams had already been made aware about the event.

This means seven Mbababe Swallows players will miss the event, as they are currently with the national team. Swallows are the MTN Premier League champions.

The players are Kwakhe Thwala, Neliswa 'Tiger' Dlamini, Sizolwethu ‘Nunu’ Shabalala, Leon Manyisa, Ayanda Gadlela, Siphosethu Mabilisa and Newman Philiso.

The national team is in Group A of the 2023 Hollywoodbets Council of Southern Africa Football Association (COSAFA) Cup and they will face Botswana in their opening game tomorrow.

crowned

Other countries in the same group are Mozambique and host nation South Africa.

Mbabane Swallows were officially crowned MTN Premier League champions a month ago at Somhlolo National Stadium, where they beat army side Young Buffaloes 3-1.

The match was watched by Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs Bongani Nzima, who crowned the champions.

Meanwhile, teams have already received their Ingwenyama Cup prizes.

The tournament was won by Correctional Services side Green Mamba after beating Mbabane Swallows 1-0 during the finals also played at Somhlolo National Stadium.
