FAN NABBED FOR COUNTERFEIT MERCHANDISE

By MELUSI MLOTSA | 2023-12-19

SOCCER - CAUGHT in the act!
The pressure to make money during the festive season has led to a capital city giants Mbabane Highlanders' female fan using unscrupulous means to make cash, as the supporter was busted selling the team's counterfeit merchandise.

The name of the female supporter is known to this publication but cannot be mentioned for now due to ethical reasons.

Sources close to the matter revealed that the supporter was found with a bulk of the team's merchandise during the recent Mbabane derby at Mavuso Sports Centre.

According to reports, the female supporter had already sold a bulk of the merchandise before she was caught red-handed by the team's officials.

The merchandise consisted of grey vests and white T-shirts. The white T-shirts were sold at E350 while the vests went for E120.

It is understood that the supporter took advantage of the fact that the club currently does not have merchandise or a marketing committee to handle such, hence she decided to make herself a killing from sales during the derby. Indeed she was the lucky lady as close to 3 836 supporters invaded the stadium on the day.

“She appeared before the MC last week and received a strong warning for selling the unauthorised merchandise.

But you can contact the Highlanders people for comment,” said the source.
The team's Public Relations Officer, Kenneth Dlamini confirmed the incident.

“Yes, I can confirm that a certain supporter was busted selling fake merchandise and we have already engaged her. We would like to warn supporters to refrain from doing such as this costs teams an arm and a leg. Unauthorised use of the team's logo is prohibited.

Once we find the culprit, they will face the music.
We would also like to urge companies that print the merchandise with our logo while unauthorised to stop the illicit act as the long arm of the law will catch up with them,” he said.
