Soccer- Ezulwini United have bounced back to the top flight after securing Tambuti FC’s MTN Premier League status.
Ezulwini United, who were previously known as Tinyosi FC, were relegated to the National First Division (NFD) during the 2021 -2022 season.
They spent last season fighting to regian their status, and fell just short of the mark managing to finish in third place, losing out to Rangers and Illovo FC.
As reported by our daily publication earlier in the week, the Lubombo- based sugar belt side were up for sale ahead of the new season kick-off having survived relegation last season.
It now seems Tambuti Chairman Rudolph Matsenjwa and Ezulwini United Director Polycarp Dlamini reportedly finalised the deal yesterday.
Reports suggest that the parties have already notified the Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) on the developments ahead of the new season set to kick-off in September. Tambuti have ended their seven-year stay in the elite league.
It is believed the PLE will announce the latest developments at the upcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM) scheduled for next month.
The Lubombo-based side have followed in the footsteps of Vovovo FC, who handed over their status to Nsingizini Hotspurs at the beginning of last season. Matsenjwa confirmed the news however, he declined to disclose further details about the deal.
“There will be no Tambuti FC next season after a seven-year stint in the Premier league.
“I have handed the team to Polycarp and everything has been finalised, but cannot tell you our terms and conditions with Polycarp.
“It is time I quit football, there is a time when one has to retire. I have played the beautiful game and I have also owned a club. I have actually done everything in football, it is time to focus on other things. I am old now,” he said.
The green and black outfit once reached the EswatiniBank semi-finals twice under the leadership of Matsenjwa. It has further produced several local players such as Mpendulo Ngidi, Mlamuli Makhanya Bhekinkhosi Mlotsa and Ncedo Mamba among others.
