TENANILE WINS GOLDEN BOOT IN EQUATORIAL GUINEA

By Nomalungelo Phiri | 2022-06-17

SOCCER - FORMER Young Buffaloes Ladies striker Tenanile Ngcamphalala has made the country proud in Equatorial Guinea after winning the Golden Boot award in her first season with Malabo Kings.

The Sitsebe Samhlekazi striker was named top scorer in the recently finished league after scoring an impressive 23 goals in 12 games with the West African outfit.

Malabo Kings were crowned champions of the 2021/22 Equatoguinean Women First Division over the past weekend, making Ngcamphalala the first Eswatini female soccer player to play for a foreign team and take home a winners medal in the process.

The player said she was grateful for the award and pledged to continue representing Eswatini at national level.

“It has been an amazing season as we were crowned champions and I got a Golden Boot award in my short stint with the club. I want to thank my teammates and coach for making me feel welcome as it would not have been possible without their support. I feel I have had a positive impact on the team as top goal scorer of the season since we won the league on goal difference,” she said.

Ngcamphalala further said she believed they would do better in the CAF Interclub competitions as they now have qualified for the CAF Women Champions League.

“It was not an easy journey as we played three times a week. It was a busy league. It is a a bit tough this side and I struggled at first, but thanks GOD I adapted. Hoping we will even do better in CAF competitions,” she said.

Women’s Football League (WFL) Chief Operations Officer (COO) Ntandoyenkosi Hlatjwayo congratulated the player, mentioning how she was an inspiration to others.

She commended Ngcamphalala for her hard work and resilience in the West African country.
“We are proud of having produced a player of international calibre. We wish her well and hope that she will continue hoisting Eswatini’s flag.

She is no stranger to scoring goals as she scored two braces in Sitsebe’s 2019 and 2020 COSAFA Women’s Championship competition when they played against Mozambique and Angola.

She also left behind a 25 goal contribution at Buffaloes after 24 games, which helped her secure the move to the west African nation,” she said.
