EswatiniBank has launched a branded and personalised debit card in support of the Junior Achievement financial literacy programme. Learners who will open a Siyakhula Savings Account under the JA programme will receive the tap-to-pay debit card which allows withdrawals from ATMs locally and worldwide, amongst other benefits. Not only have they launched the debit card but EswatiniBank went on to sponsor the 2021 JA financial literacy programme week.
Making her remarks during the launch of the debit card was EswatiniBank Managing Director Nozizwe Mulela who said one of the bank's initiative was to ensure that the youth are taught to manage finances at an early age, whilst at the same time instilling the EswatiniBank brand in their early age in anticipation of a guaranteed future clientele.
She mentioned that financial literacy created the much needed financial freedom in life as financially literate children were empowered to face the future independently without relying on other people, hence reducing the prevalence of abuse.
"The financial literacy programme is supported by Siyakhula Savings Account, which was rolled out for children between the ages of 6-21. This account aims to foster the culture of saving amongst children and increase financial inclusion. “To date, EswatiniBank has over E6.2 million in Siyakhula Accounts, a good indication that the mindset of these young ones is already shifting towards the culture of saving,” she said. Mulela, a former JA board member, implored the organisation to continue with the good work in financial literacy.
"We hope the gesture by Eswatini Bank will contribute towards achieving your objectives as an organisation. "I am optimistic that more players will come on board to support this great course,” she said.
