EFA CAN'T GIVE SUBVENTIONS TO TEAMS – ‘ACE’

By Melusi Mlotsa | 2020-04-09

SOCCER - ESWATINI Football Association (EFA) executive member and Lubombo Regional Football Association Chairman Nicho-demus 'Ace' Mashwama says the mother body cannot give subventions to teams.

Mashwama said it was the duty of the PLE to give subventions to teams, while EFA’s role was to develop the game and produce players.

"Subventions cannot come from the mother body but the PLE, it is simple as that.

“As a person who is not sure how the PLE operates, I may not know whether they have an allocation from their sponsors to help teams with subventions at the beginning of every season. EFA is an umbrella body, looking at over 800 clubs countrywide and how to develop the game.

Budget

“PLE is a commercial wing just like the PSL in South Africa. For instance, in South Africa PSL Chairman Dr Irvin Khoza has a big budget than SAFA President Danny Jordan,” he said.

Mashwama said he did not understand why the PLE Board of Governors was requesting the football mother body to give them subventions.

The seasoned football administrator mentioned that teams should scout for sponsorships. "I know that in Zambia most teams go to the Copper Belt Mines to seek assistance. We can also do the same here.

Capacity

“However, we cannot run away from the fact that locally we have very few companies that have the capacity to pump in E1 million to a team compared to the developed countries,” he said.

Mashwama mentioned that teams must not run away from club licensing.

"Teams must not avoid club licensing because it is where and how you evaluate yourselves. Whatever football challenge you face as a football administrator, it becomes your problem,” he said.
