COP THROTTLED, FORCED TO FREE SUSPECT

IN a rather unusual incident that left members of the public shocked, a mob stormed a Manzini City Centre Police Post where they throttled a female police officer on duty and set free a suspect who was behind bars.

The incident that forced the female officer to scream “Inyandzaleyo” happened on Sunday at around 9am.

Information gathered from reliable sources revealed that on that day, Manzini police officers apprehended a suspect who was wanted for a string of robberies and attempted murder cases.

The source revealed that the suspect was locked inside the Manzini police post shortly before 8am.

It had been gathered that an hour later, three men and a woman stormed the police post. 

Dangerous

“In the police post, they found a lone female officer whom they throttled and later set free the dangerous suspect before they fled the scene,” said the source.

The source added that after recovering from the incident, the female officer managed to apprehend the female who was part of the mob.

Witnesses who were found at the scene confirmed the incident.

One of the witnesses who is a Mozambican said they heard a police officer screaming “Inyandzaleyo” inside the police post and all of a suddenly a group of people came out running.

“Everything happened within a twinkle of an eye. It was a case of too little too late as the mob had already disappeared,” said the witness.

Another female witness also confirmed the incident and condemned the violence meted out on the police officer.

She said she was alarmed to hear the police officer shouting for help inside the police post.

“I could sense that something bad happened. My fears were confirmed some few minutes later when a group of people came out running,” said the witness.

Assaulted

Chief Police Information and Commu-nications Officer Superintendent Phindile Vilakati confirmed the incident and said they will not rest until the mob is arrested.

“Yes, the incident happened on Sunday. A mob assaulted a female cop and later set free a suspect who was arrested for a string of robberies he committed around the country. We condemn such acts and the law will take its course once the culprits are found,” she warned.
