BHOLOJA DELIVERS MUSIC BLISS

By Andile Dlamini | 2019-06-25

IT was a night of musical bliss at Eswatini Theatre Club on Sunday night as Swazi soul legend Bholoja hosted a ‘Yebo Gogo Yebo Mzala’ concert headlined by South African jazz artist Dudu Makhoba.

The event kicked off with a young artist named Nathian whom Bholoja said he wanted to give a chance to showcase his talent.

Nathian left the crowd yearning for more.

South African songstress Dudu Makhoba took to the stage with her back-up vocalist Amogelang, drummer Skhumbuzo, pianist Tshepo as well Ghally.

Her first song titled ‘The Plea’ paid homage to God, with her set going on for almost two hours. The audience’s favourite song was ‘Vuma Nhliziyo’, which she performed  before doing a cover of the late Busi Mhlongo’s ‘Yapheli’mali Yami’ and concluded her rendition with a song that she asked the audience to name as she hadn’t found a title for it as yet.

Host Bholoja took to the stage to as he was joined by Ghally and Sanely Simelane for an electrifying 20-minute set.

Sindi Ntombini, who was clearly mesmerised throughout the show, said she loved every bit of it and was looking forward to more shows like this.

Sociallete and businessman Max Dlamini said he was disappointed at the lack of support from others artists in such shows.

Makhoba said this was one of her best performances as she was received with warmth and love. “I would love to do a song with Bholoja and the young woman who sings ‘Tinyembeti’, said Makhoba.

Bholoja said the next show would be happening on the first week of July and was looking into having these concerts every month.

“The next show must have a reason, in fact the plan is to have a reason for why we are doing these shows,” he said.

He mentioned that he wanted to partner with non-governmental organisations to give the shows a purpose. “I am a World Vision ambassador and fighting women and children abuse. Also, this is a platform for artists to join in against advocating for an end to abuse and also unearthing new talent. The Theatre Club is the perfect place because it is the only one of its kind in the country and we want to use this platform,” said Bholoja.
