SOCCER – MANZINI Wanderers supporters must heave a sigh of relief after news that team boss Mehluli Nhlengetfwa has bounced back.
The good news come after reports emerged about two weeks ago that the South Africa businessman had quit the club, citing interference within the team.
The news was met with a sour taste by a large number of the team’s followers, including the players, who were not at all happy.
Nhlengetfwa joined Manzini Wanderers about seven months ago and is reported to have spent approximately E1.7 million in the past season in running the team.
Under the leadership of Nhlengetfwa, the maroon and white outfit has managed to acquire a fully-fledged office in Manzini (Opposite Old Trade Fair).
The South Africa based businessman also signed quality players during his arrival in the January transfer window period.
It was during Nhlengetfwa’s tenure that the ladies soccer team won the 2018/19 EswatiniBank Cup after defeating fierce side Young Buffaloes in the finals graced by His Majesty King Mswati III and former South Africa President Jacob Zuma. The latest developments indicate that Nhlengetfwa has bounced back after successful talks within the club structures and is ready to take the team to greater heights in the upcoming season.
Good news
Confirming the good news to the Wanderers’ family was the team’s Head of Legal Affairs Bongani ‘Bhanyaza’ Mdluli, who assured the Weslians’ supporters that everything was under control and they should not press the panic button.
“After fruitful talks, I would like to assure the Manzini supporters and the football fraternity that Nhlengeftwa is back with Manzini Wanderers. He will lead the team in the 2019/20 season. As I am talking to you right now, we are busy trying to beef up the squad for next season,” he said. Nhlengwetfwa’s return will be meet with joy by the throngs of the team’s supporters, who are still celebrating their Bible Society Cup triumph after beating Manzini Sundowns in the finals at Mavuso Sports Centre on Saturday. The bouncing back of Nhlengetfwa means that two clubs in the Premier League are funded by South Africa based businessmen with Ally Kgomongwe also at the helm at Mbabane Highlanders.
