MAMBA LEAPFROG ROYAL LEOPARD

SOCCER - CORRECTIONAL Services side Green Mamba are now sitting at the top of the MTN Premier League log after beating Tambuti FC 1-0  at Mayaluka Stadium last night.

Mamba have now toppled their rival Royal Leopard, who played to a 1-1 draw against Matsapha United.

The match started on a high note with both sides coming hard at each other in search for the opening goal.  Green Mamba were the first team to create a clear cut scoring opportunity  but Mthunzi Mkhontfo missed a chance in the 24th minute from a Mxolisi Mkhontfo free kick at the edge of the box . Tambuti, who were missing their captain Muntu Mamba upfront, matched Green Mamba pound for pound for prolonged stages of the first half.  Tambuti winger Mbusiseni Motsa’s rasping shot hit the woodwork in 44th minute with Green Mamba goalkeeper Thokozani Mkhulisi well beaten between the goal posts. The match went to break with the teams locked at 0-0.

The second stanza saw Green Mamba add more numbers upront in search for the opening goal.

The Correctional Services side eventually broke the deadlock in the 49th minute and it was Mxolisi Mkhontfo, who dribbled past Tambuti defenders before beating goalkeeper Mlamuli Makhanya between the poles.

Mamba coach Caleb Ngwenya then substituted Musa Dlamini for Banele Mdluli in 56th minute.  Mamba continued pilling pressure in search of the second goal but former Mbabane City player Mkhontfo missed another chance in the 75th minute, after he was set up by Gomez Gondwe.

Tambuti looked tired at this stage of the match. Tambuti’s scoring opportunity came in 85th minute but Sibonelo Shiba took his shot wide.

Terisayi Changara’s men tried to launch some attacks towards the dying minutes of the game but Mamba stood firm at the back until the referee blew his last whistle to end the game.

The Correctional Services side has now 55 points, equal with Leopard but they have a superior goal difference.
