DON LAKA’S NEW ALBUM WRITTEN AFTER ‘KUBUTSEKA’

By Nokwanda Sibandze | 2019-04-24

LEGENDARY jazz singer, songwriter and producer Don Laka announced that his new album in eight years is titled ‘Passion’.

The singer revealed that he was able to record his album after he underwent ‘kubutseka’.

Speaking to the Entertainment Desk, the singer said he was excited to be launching his album in the country. He said he has found Eswatini to be his second home.

“I was named ‘Mamelodi’ after the initiation process of ‘kubutseka’ and truthfully it also inspired me to work on this album,” said the artist. According to the singer, the album is packed with 11 tracks including songs such as ‘My Endless Love’, ‘Coal Trains’, ‘Take My Hand’, ‘I will Walk With You,’ and ‘Kassie Street’.

“My jazz playing is really about five per cent. All the music I do is based on Kwela and Marabi which I then mix with various music elements suited to each and every particular song I compose.

Excited

“‘Passion’ is my first kwaai-jazz album in eight years and I am super excited about it. I have grown even more comfortable with what I have to offer musically,” said the artist.

Recently at the Cape Town Jazz Festival, he did something he has never done before with his band. “We performed, back-to-back, at least five songs from ‘Passion’ and the crowd went wild.”

The artist promised a blazing show and said people should come in their numbers to witness history in the making.

The show will be at The George Hotel in Manzini on Friday at 7:30pm.

Tickets cost E350, which includes light meals.
