BULL DIRECTORS TO STEP DOWN!

By Melusi Mlotsa | 2019-04-20

SOCCER – It will be a terrible blow as capital city giants Mbabane Highlanders board of directors are reportedly going to step down at the end of the current season.

The team is currently rocked by financial challenges after the main sponsor Eswatini Mobile pulled out from sponsoring the team and two fellow crowd pullers Mbabane Swallows and Manzini Wanderers.

The outgoing directors are Chairman Zweli Jele, Marwick Khumalo and Secretary Musa Masuku who took over from Managing Director Bheki ‘Rubber’ Simelane three seasons ago.

The current regime is said to be working without a contract with the team.

Information gathered suggests that the decision was taken on Wednesday night in a meeting held at Timbali Lodge by the patrons.

It is worth mentioning that Jele, Khumalo and Masuku are also patrons in the team.

They were roped in to help in the directorship structure after the departure of Simelane.

The source said that the directors led by top lawyer Zweli Jele felt that they had done their part in the team and would like to give others a chance.

“It’s true that the directors will be stepping down at the end of this month, in order to allow new faces in the team for next season.

They feel that they have done their part even though some supporters have been ungrateful for the contribution they have made despite the precarious position they found in the team,” said the source.

stability

The three directors brought stability in the team as the black and white outfit lost in the finals of the SMVAF Ingwenyama Cup.

The team also look set to finish in a respectable position in the MTN league as they are tailing log leaders Royal Leopard with seven points.

Zweli Jele when contacted denied that they would be stepping down.

“This is fake news; I’m only hearing from you, I will not resign maybe others will. Let’s talk on May 2, to see whether I’m stepping down or not,” he said.

Chairman of the patrons Isaac Shabangu said he was not aware of the matter.

He said the current directors would be the ones to decide when to resign as they do not have a contract to run the team.

South Africa businessman Ally Kgomongwe and a local businessman are tipped to take over the directorship structure from the capital city giants.

However, it’s been learnt that the patrons are divided over the South African born businessman taking over the club.

 name

The local businessman name is known to this publication but his name will not be mentioned for now.

Kgomongwe, said he was currently focusing on his businesses when also reached yesterday.   “since 2014 we have been talking about Highlanders till today.  I will inform you when there are changes.

Currently, I’m concentrating on my business, politics, Ally Tigers,” he said.
