SOCCER – THE Eswatini Bank has continued to show commitment towards the development of local football in the country
The ‘Bank with a heart ‘ensured that its promise is realised yesterday after pumping in E240 000 towards the 2019 Under-20 soccer tournament.
The package has seen an increase of E20 000 from the previous edition which was sponsored to the tune of E200 000.
The new package was announced by the bank’s Managing Director Zakhele Lukhele during a launch held at the financial institution’s auditorium.
When making his remarks, Lukhele said they were happy with the contribution made by the tournament in football development in the country.
“We hope to see our youth football standard growing in the country and the bank is committed to contribute and be part of that development. We encourage teams to embrace sportsmanship, promote individual and social environment and we want to see the players graduate to the senior national squads and go play beyond our borders,” he said.
Meanwhile, Eswatini Football Association (EFA) Vice President Dr Comfort Shongwe said the tournament was in line with their youth development programme.
Grateful
“We are very grateful to the bank for coming up with such a great initiative which was part of our mission to develop football in the country. We would like to thank the sponsor for its continuous support to the tournament and we further commend the good work which has been done by the Premier League of Eswatini development office over the years,” he said.
This year’s edition will see an increase in the prize packages of the development tournament as the champions will take home E45 000.
The runners-up stand to pocket E20 000 while the third and fourth place finishers will each take home E5 000.
The player of the tournament will receive E4 000 while the top goal scorer and goalkeeper of the tournament will pocket E3 000 and E2 500, respectively.
