SOCCER – THINGS are not rosy within the Mbabane Highlanders camp as six players have reportedly not received their November salaries.
It is understood that the players are now left in the cold after a majority of their teammates got their monies last week.
The affected players are goalkeeper Khanyakwezwe Shabalala, defender Peter Dlamini, utility player Ndumiso Mabuza, combative midfielder Menzi Mamba, attacking midfielder Menzi Sithole and youthful forward Melusi Dlamini.
One of the affected players who preferred to speak on condition of anonymity asserted that they were promised to receive the money last night.
“We haven’t got our November salaries and management promised to pay us today (yesterday) something that has not happened.
We nearly boycotted the recent game against Wanderers but we decided to play for the love of the team,” “We usually receive our salaries around the 7th of the following month but things changed this time around and it is now the 10th (yesterday).
Some of the six players even boycotted training last week as Highlanders prepared for their MTN League match against Manzini Wanderers last Saturday.
Public Relations Officer (PRO) Paul ‘Magidzeludzakeni’ Masilela confirmed there were issues with some of the playing personnel going to Saturday’s game. “When I saw these players listed as part of the match day squad, I thought their issues had been resolved. Unfortunately I was not at the management meeting today (last night) to get the latest updates but it is true that some even boycotted training last week,” Masilela said.
Highlanders was last month reported to have not received its monthly subvention from their main sponsor Eswatini Mobile, after failing to meet the registration requirement of at least 500 supporters per month. The team was receiving E80 000 monthly grant from the communication giant as part of the E10.5million sponsorship which also benefits four other local clubs including Wanderers, Mbabane Swallows and National First Division sides Tinyosi and Madlenya.
