A member of the royal family is thanking his gods for intervening after he was shot by unidentified gunmen.
In a scene reminiscent of a drive-by shooting, Prince Sicelo was recently pursued by a light-flicking vehicle as he ascended the last stretch of Malagwane hill which overlooks The Old Barn.
He was driving a white seven-seater vehicle and was alone on the night of September 20.
Assuming that he was being warned of something while perturbed by the speeding vehicle, he is said to have moved the seven seater-vehicle to the slow lane as he reduced speed ready to engage his pursuers.
Just as the vehicle reached his side, he is said to have heard a loud banging sound which left him disoriented.
Seeing as he was slowing down, he is said to have involuntarily continued pressing his foot on the brakes as he moved further to the side of the road.
Shock
While in shock at the occurrence, still not aware that he had been shot, he is said to have heard two people approach the vehicle as they communicated. As he was passing out due to loss of blood, he heard them clearer as one of the assailants said, “Usimisa kabi.”
By then he is said to have slumped over on his steering wheel as he was losing consciousness from loss of blood.
After some time, he is said to have come to and was able to drive himself to the Mbabane Clinic, where he was admitted for a week while being treated.
The single shot through the door shattered the window in between and lodged in his thigh.
Gun found ‘discarded’ at lawyers’ offices
The gun suspected to have been used in the assassination attempt of a prince has reportedly been found.
This was confirmed by the Chief Police Communication and Information Officer Superintended Phindile Vilakati.
The incident is said to have left Prince Sicelo with a limp as he was noted during the national prayer held at Mandvulo Grand Hall recently walking slowly while stepping gingerly.
This publication established that even though ballistics tests are still to be conducted, the gun is believed to have been the one used during the assassination attempt. Of note, the gun is said to have been found lodged in the garden near a parameter fence within premises used by one of the well-known lawyers in the country.
Vilakati would not confirm whether the gun is the same as the one used by Prince Sicelo’s assailants.
When contacted, Prince Sicelo confirmed the incident but stated that he was waiting on the police to complete investigations.
