ASPIRING WOMEN MPS CAMPAIGN TOMORROW

By Mbono Mdluli | 2018-11-13

The women who aspire to be Members of Parliament (MPs) will canvass for votes before MPs tomorrow.

This is supposed to happen in Parliament tomorrow, where the 20 women will be given an opportunity to campaign before the MPs, who will elect them after the campaigning period is over. Parliament sits at 2:30pm tomorrow.

In a statement sent to this publication by Clerk to Parliament Ndvuna Dlamini, the female aspiring MPs are supposed to campaign before the MPs by virtue of Section 11 (2)of the Election of Women Members into the House of Assembly Act of 2018.

The female aspiring MPs started campaigning last week Thursday, after the period of publicising their names ended last week Wednesday.

They are expected to spend 10 days campaigning for seats to the MPs who will elect them. There are 20 women that are supposed to campaign tomorrow before the MPs in Parliament. At the end of the whole process, only four of the aspiring female MPs are supposed to be elected, with one of them coming from each of the four regions of the country.

Meanwhile, the MPs will start by electing members of the Parliament  Sessional Committee. The election of sessional committee members was done by MPs two weeks ago. Now the MPs have to close vacancies created by the fact that some of the members of the cessional committee were appointed as Cabinet ministers.

These are Ministers Chief Ndlaluhlaza  Ndwandwe and Lady Howard-Mabuza.

The sessional committee is responsible for overseeing the operations of the House of Assembly.

The sessional committee would have to monitor if the MPs are able to deliver on the mandate they got from the people.

The main focus of the committee would be on the many committees that are yet to be set up by the MPs, like the Commonwealth Parliament Association (CPA) and the Pan African Parliament (PAP). They would monitor if the committees delivered on their mandates.

The MPs are supposed to choose up to seven of these members. However, they chose five yesterday because they had to wait for the election of the chairman of the chairpersons portfolio committees. They also had to wait for the election of the chief whip of the House of Assembly.

Members of the House of Assembly sessional committee included: Maseyisini MP Mduduzi ‘Small Joe’ Dlamini Lobamba Lomdzala MP Marwick  Khumalo Maphalaleni MP Mabulala Maseko MP Chief Ndlaluhlaza Ndwandwe Mafutseni MP Lady Howard -Mabuza.
