FORMER MINISTERS OFFER DIFFERING EXCUSES FOR SNUBBING EX-PM’S FUNERAL

By Sabelo Majola | 2018-10-15

Let the dead bury the dead!

This line derived from the book of Matthew bears true testimony to what was witnessed at the burial of former Prime Minister Sibusiso Dlamini whose funeral was snubbed by his former colleagues over the weekend.

The same line was also made famous by late legendary Reggae artist Peter Tosh in his burial song which he composed after snubbing his closest friend Bob Marley’s funeral.

Dlamini was laid to his final resting place at his parental home at Ndzingeni over the weekend after a memorial service that was held the previous day at the SANU sports ground.

It was reported that of the 19 former cabinet ministers that the former PM appointed and led during the 10th parliament, only one attended his funeral outside of the two who were engaged during preparations and that was former minister of public service Owen Nxumalo.  Others present were former minister of education and training Phineas Magagula who was chairing the state funeral committee and former minister of labour and social security Winnie Magagula who served as a member.   Two former ministers from other terms Reverent Muntu Absalom Dlamini, current Ndzingeni MP Lutfo Dlamini were also present.  When contacted on why they snubbed their former principal’s funeral, the former cabinet ministers had differing yet flimsy excuses for the snub. From illness to being held up on personal commitments were some of the excuses the former legislators offered while others didn’t even entertain the question as they hung up before the question was completely articulated, others could not be drawn for comment as their phones rang unanswered or not available on the network.

They snubbed the funeral of a man who had so much faith in them after leading them in two full terms as ministers.
