SOCCER – Last season English Premier League top scorer Mohammed Salah, is among 12 overseas based players called by Egypt boss Javier Aguirre to face Sihlangu.
The sensational Liverpool man, along with fellow English Premiership stars Ahmed Hegazi of West Bromwich Albion, Arsenal’s Mohamed Elneny and Aston Villa’s Ahmed Elmohamady with Russia 2018 World Cup star Mahmoud Trezeguet, will face Sihlangu in a space of four days.
The first game and third of the 2019 AFCON qualifier Group J will be staged in Cairo’s Al Salam Stadium on October 12 with the return leg at Mavuso Sports Centre on October 16.
Anthony Mdluli-led Sihlangu are third in Group J standings following a home defeat to table toppers Tunisia last month while the Pharaohs of Egypt thrashed Niger comprehensively in the second round with a 6-0 win.
Liverpool superstar Salah netted twice whilst accompanied on the score sheet by Marwan Mohsen, Ayman Ashraf, Salah Mohsen and Arsenal's Mohamed Elneny. Egypt’s win moved them into second place behind topped ranked African nation Tunisia, whom they suffered a 1- 0 defeat to in their group opener back in June 2017.
Huddersfield Town winger Ramadan Sobhi is the only notable absentee in Aguirre’s squad as he is ruled out through injury.
Meanwhile, Mdluli is yet to announce his Sihlangu squad for the upcoming two matches.
Egypt overseas-based call-ups:
Mohamed Awad (Al Wehda), Ahmed Hegazi (West Bromwich), Mohamed Salah (Liverpool), Mohamed Elneny (Arsenal), Sam Morsy (Wigan Athletic), Ahmed Elmohamady (Aston Villa), Amro Tarek (Orlando City), Aly Ghazal (Vancouver Whitecaps), Mahmoud Trezeguet (Kasimpasa), Amr Warda (PAOK), Ahmed Hassan Koka (Olympiacos), Hussein El-Shahat (Al Ain).
