MOM TRAFFICKS DAUGHTER FOR SEXUAL EXPLOITATION IN ESWATINI

By Sandile Nkambule | 2018-08-17

In one of the shocking cases of human trafficking, a Mozambican woman who is now married to Liswati is alleged to have trafficked her daughter through an informal crossing into Eswatini for sexual exploitation.

This is one of the worst cases of human trafficking and people smuggling the Director of Public Prosecutions’ (DPP) office has dealt with in the Kingdom of Eswatini.

The mother yesterday appeared before High court Judge John Magagula as she has been charged with three counts of human trafficking and one of theft by false pretences.

According to the charge sheet, she is charged with human trafficking on the first count in that she smuggled her daughter from Catembe in Mozambique to Eswatini for sexual exploitation.

On the second count she is charged with human trafficking in that she allegedly smuggled her daughter into the kingdom under the guise that she was going to meet her (daughter) father knowing very well that there was none such.

Both the names of the victim and her mother have been deliberately withheld for ethical reasons.

Intercourse

Giving evidence before Judge Magagula while led by Principal Crown Counsel Lomvula Hlophe yesterday, the daughter told the court that when she arrived in the kingdom, her mother would take her to different men of all races and order her to have sexual intercourse with them as they would in return pay her mother.

However when she refused to have sex with the men, her mother would assault and starve her for days as a form of punishment.

Speaking in a low voice while seated in the witness box, the daughter whose voice would sometimes break told the court that at one time, her mother took her to one of the bars around Ezulwini, bought her alcoholic beverages before luring another man who was driving in his car and offered her for sex to the man.

Sex

“I refused to have sex with the man and the man who was in his car eventually took back the money he had given my mother as payment for a sex session with me, when we went back home my mother assaulted me and starved me for three days and her mother in law eventually gave me food which she brought to my bedroom,” she said to a silent court room.

She further told the court that such incidences happened when her mother was staying at Bhunya and around Ezulwini.
