AUBAMEYANG’S TEAMMATE TRAINING WITH SWALLOWS

By Sibongiseni Zondi | 2018-08-16

SOCCER - MBABANE Swallows are currently assessing a Gabonese defender by the name of Stevy Nzambe.

The 26-year-old left back started training with Swallows a few weeks ago and plays for the Gabonese national team alongside Arsenal star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Nzambe has played for South African clubs Amazulu and Real Kings previously, the latter who were his last side. The defender also played for French top club Marseille’s reserve side.

Interviewed after Swallows morning training session at Mavuso Sports Centre yesterday morning, Nzambe said he was ready to help Swallows if signed.

“I am happy to be training with Swallows. They have made a name for themselves in Africa and if I get the chance to be signed I will do my best to help the club with the little experience I have in the (CAF) Champions League,” Nzambe said.

Meanwhile, Swallows coach Thabo ‘Koki’ Vilakai said he had made his mind on the player and had already communicated his decision to the club’s management.

“As everyone knows, we lost our first choice left back in Sanele Mkhweli and that is a position we want to strengthen. I have seen him (Nzambe) and have made up my mind about him. I have already communicated my decision to the management,” Vilakati said, hinting that he had been impressed by the Gabonese defender.

The Sports Desk understands that Nzambe has impressed most authorities within the club, including the players themselves. If he signs, he will be Swallows’ seventh signing of this transfer window following in the footsteps of Siboniso Ndzabandzaba, Sakhile Shongwe, Xolani ‘Papi’ Sikhondze,  Amogou Jean Claude, Sallieu Tarawallie and Kola Aladeon.
