Tibiyo Takangwane Managing Director Dr Absalom Themba Dlamini said corruption, misuse of state resources and economic hurdles have deepened poverty in the country.
Dlamini, who was the guest speaker at Somhlolo Festival of Praise Prayer Breakfast held yesterday, said these have continued to pose a threat to the post-colonial gains made in the past five decades.
“The Kingdom of Eswatini has not been exempted from a range of social and economic hurdles.
At the social front we know the deep levels of poverty and high unemployment are driven by negative stagnant and low economic growth, the threat of HIV and AIDS, corruption and misuses of state resources and assets,” he said.
He said at different times in post independent history, the country’s economy has struggled to grow as a result of a combination of global, continental, regional as well as local challenges.
“We have seen fewer jobs being created as the economy took strain which contitues to deepen poverty,” adding that the reason for talking about the challenges was to enable them to note the possible areas of improvement.
Dlamini however contended that despite that many colonial masters left a lot of infrastructure development, this was not the case for the country which saw citizens achieve what they have through sweat, vision and commitment. “For that we should be proud as leaders and as the people of this country,” he said.
Follow Their Majesties’ leadership – Dr A.T
This year’s celebration of the Somhlolo Festival of Praise is very significant in that it fell on the year when the country had a double celebrations being the 50 years of independence and His Majesty’s 50th birthday.
This is according to TibiyoTakangwane Managing Director Dr Absalom Themba Dlamini who further congratulated Their Majesties, singing praises to their leadership which he described as engulfed with wisdom.
“Before I speak on my chosen points, I wish to take a moment and congratulate Ingwenyama and the nation for these respective milestones. His Majesty has been at the helm at many critical points in this country’s timeline, and we thank him for the kind of leadership he has provided all these years.
When a nation grows, it looks to its leadership for direction, wisdom and vision.
As our leader, His Majesty has faced a mammoth challenge to steer this nation in the right direction, sometimes against deep challenges,” he said
Dlamini said the King through his wisdom and passion for his people and country has led the nation to this very important and significant point in the country’s history.
“Bayethe, WenaWaphakathi. Khula Mlisa!
I wish to convey a similar message to her Majesty, Mhlekazi, who has also provided key leadership and guidance to the nation.
Nkhosi, Mhlekazi,” he added.
He then implored other leaders in the country to follow in the footsteps of their majesties leadership sharing six characteristics of good leadership which others can adopt for the development of the country.
These include trust, communication, humility, service, patience and tolerance, and prayer. Dlamini said trust is the basis on which to conduct business saying without trust it would be impossible to succeed in the execution of responsibilities delegated by His Majesty, boards and the constitution.
“As a leader your word must be your bond. Peace and stability cannot be achieved without trust. As this country heads to the elections, people are looking for leaders they can trust, companies are also looking for people they can trust to lead and serve on their boards,” he said.
