By Sibongiseni Zondi | 2018-06-19

SOCCER - MBABANE Swallows resumed training yesterday with their CAF Champions League clash against Tunisian giants Etoile Du Sahel now less than a month away.

Swallows host Etoile in their third Champions  League match on July 17 at the Mavuso Sports Centre. The Birds picked up four points in their opening two group stage matches, first drawing 1-all with Zanaco away in Zambia and then beating Angolan side Primeiro De Agosto 1-0 at home back on May 15, their last match.

Now, with their third match in sight, Swallows resumed training yesterday morning, with seven players attending the morning session. Physical trainers Siyabonga Bhembe and Etienne Massoye oversaw the morning session.

Players

Young midfielders  Sizolwethu ‘Nunu’ Shabalala and Richard McCreesh as well as the foreign duo of hardman Richard Sewu and striker Daniel Atakorah were some of the players, who trained in the morning.

Interviewed after the morning session which began at around 9.30am, Bhembe said it was important for the players to quickly get back up to speed.

“Today was simply about alerting the muscles for next week when  begin training fully.

All we were doing now was just giving them a few exercises to alert the muscles because it’s all a process. In the afternoon (yesterday) we will have a bigger number because most of the players only start training then,” Bhembe said.

However, the seven Swallows players, who played in the recent COSAFA Cup including captain Tony Tsabezde and Felix Badenhorst, will not take part in training this week as the club is giving them a break.

The players are expected to join the rest of  the team next week with Swallows also set to play South African side Orlando Pirates in a training match early next month.
