DOMBO OFF TO SA ARROWS

By Sibusiso Masilela | 2018-06-18

SOCCER – HUB giants Manzini Wanderers could lose their wing wizard Mike Dombo to ABSA Premiership side Lamontville Golden Arrows during the upcoming season of 2018/19.

The DR Congo-born winger has already left the country for South Africa to attend a one week assessment with the Durban based side.

The former Matsapha United player will be looking to impress Arrows coach Clinton Larson in his quest to win a contract at the green and gold ensemble.

The player’s agent Allan Kibangula also confirmed the news when sought for comment yesterday afternoon.

“The player will start training with Arrows tomorrow (today) after they showed interest to sign him. I will be waiting for a report from Arrows before the end of the week and we will take it from there,” Kibangula said.

Reports also coming within the ‘Weslians’ camp suggest that Nigerian goalkeeper  Ramanius Igidimba  has committed  himself  to the team after signing a one-year renewable contract.

“Romanus will be staying with Wanderers for another season after the team offered him a new contract which would come to end in June next year,” said Kibangula, who is also the goalkeeper’s agent.

Wanderers Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Pat Mahlalela confirmed that Dombo, through his agent, requested the club to release him to attend trials in SA.

“The Directors agreed to the request and the team wishes Dombo the best of luck as he begins his assessment. The understanding is that should the player fail to make the grade, he will come back and resume his career with Wanderers.

“At the moment, the management is busy sorting out administrative issues that include contract renewals for those players whose contracts are coming to an end. This process began before the season ended and are sometimes hampered by that some of the players' agents are not based in the country. I can confidently say that Ramanius has extended his stay with the team and for this; the management extends appreciation to the player and his agent for the smooth discussions.” Meanwhile, Wanderers head coach Nyanga ‘Crooks ‘Hlophe wished Dombo the best of luck during the assessment when reached yesterday.

“I always want to see my players getting international offers since we do not have enough resources to keep players, especially foreigners, in the country. I can be happy for Dombo if he can eventually make it to South Africa after doing so well with us last season.  He is a good player and I wish him all the best,” he said.

Dombo last season attended trials at relegated ABSA Premiership side Ajax Cape Town where he eventually failed to win a contract.  Dombo had an impressive campaign with the ‘Weslians’ where he helped the crowd pullers reach the finals of the 2018 SwaziBank Cup and further secured a fourth place finish in the MTN Premier League.
