24 OBTAIN FIRST-EVER PROFICIENCY IN RETIREMENT FUND CERTIFICATE

By Hlengiwe Ndlovu | 2018-06-18

AFTER undergoing a grueling training programme at Amadi University College, history was made on Thursday when the first group of proficiency in retirement fund trusteeship graduates obtained their certificates in a graduation ceremony, held at the Sibane Hotel.

The graduation interestingly coincided with the opening match of the FIFA World Cup in Russia. However, not even the hyped opening match which attracted hundreds of thousands of viewers from the globe could deter the graduates from officially receiving their certificates because their achievement is equally historic for the country.

It emerged during the ceremony that only one person did not pass the course and arrangements were being made for that individual to write another exam. Speaking on behalf of the graduates, Sicelo Dlamini who is the Mbabane Municipal Council retirement fund Principal Officer described the course as being both interesting and intensive. He also thanked the Financial Service Regulatory Authority (FSRA) for envisioning a course of this nature as it came with a lot of insight for retirement trustees.

“Even though we were entrusted with the trusteeship responsibility, aspects of the Retirement Act somehow were sometimes not understandable for us,” he said, adding that the training had shed a lot of insight for them.

He also expressed the need for an advanced course next year and affirmed that his other colleagues were equally thirst for it. In the meantime, FSRA CEO Sandile Dlamini congratulated the 24 graduates for their accomplishment as they are the first ever group to receive training of this nature.

He expressed hope that in the next graduation, the minister of finance would officiate because the training programme is more like the ministry’s project.

He described FSRA’s role as being the project implementing agent.

Amadi to soon introduce Diploma in Insurance

AMADI University College is currently engaged in advanced talks with the Insurance Institute of Zimbabwe concerning the Diploma in Insurance course which the institution wants to introduce.

This was disclosed by Amadi University College Executive Director John Bukutu on Thursday where he also indicated that a Memorandum of Understanding in this regard is also in the pipeline.

He said it would not just end with the Diploma programme as the institution intends to upgrade this offering to degree and later to fellowship level.

In another matter, the executive director said strategic partnerships are important for Amadi because they translate to the institution’s growth. He made mention of the partnership established by his institution and government which had resulted in Amadi training over 2 000 teachers currently employed by government.

He also advised organisations to embrace Artificial Intelligence and the ever evolving technologies in the workspace.
